The new government's "Big Society" is coming to the Police, and with it a likely demand for law enforcement agency building design to clearly demonstrate how it can help police officers work more efficiently and engage more with local communities. Mark Leeson, a director of property and construction consultancy McBains Cooper, says that design and development emphasis will be influenced by a shift towards local accountability and local tailoring of police activities to address specific regional and community-based issues.

Action-man Steve Lea is preparing to bike, trek and white-water raft a gruelling 20km circuit in the Himalayas all to raise money for disadvantaged youngsters. Father-of-two Steve, from Upton is part of a team of six Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK employees taking part in The Himalaya Challenge in aid of The Prince’s Trust. As part of the challenge Steve, and colleagues, Gill Sol, Tony Smith, Matt Gibbs, Scott Wegener and Jane Tebbatt, who are all based in the south, must raise £21,000.

West Cheshire College has commissioned two new campuses, at Ellesmere Port and Chester, at a cost of £65m, aimed at providing high quality facilities to improve vocational opportunities in the area. Being built by BAM Construction, the core of the 19,500m2, five- storey Ellesmere Port build has been created using large format structural insulated panels (SIPs), manufactured, supplied and installed by McVeigh Insulations.
